Overview
Both Debian and Ubuntu fail to boot when there is an arbitrarily more complex zpool than a single vdev that contains the bootfs.
Notes on Boot Process
- The linux kernel is initially bootstrapped.
- The compiled-in initramfs is mounted and executed.
